Beale 851st SMS Blueprints

My Thanks

These drawings come directly from the archives of the late Fred Epler, missile historian, friend and aerospace enthusiast. I say this often because it is simple fact, and this site would be greatly diminished without his work and inspiration.

These specific blueprints were donated to an aerospace museum after Fred's passing and additional thanks goes to the museum and its staff for helping make this page possible. I will add the museum's name and link after I get an okay from them.

More Info

These are the available plans for the Beale A, B and C operational sites. It should be noted that the quality of some drawings is not great, but this is due to their initial reproduction and condition. Also, this is not a complete set, and many drawings are not included. This is not an omission of those drawings, but I simply do not have certain drawings to offer at this time.

Please Help! (if you can)

It is my sincere hope that missing drawings can be added over time and a near-complete set can be made available. If you are reading this and have any of the missing pages, please contact me and we can see about getting them added.

The Blueprint Indices

Alternatively, you can peruse the index pages of the Beale blueprints here, though the pages can be rather hard to read at times. You will also note that some areas are spread somewhat haphazardly across multiple index pages, but the indices can help locate a particular area of interest. Please note that some pages have several revisions, and as a result may have 2 or more versions. All versions are posted here for completeness.

The following drawings are missing from the Beale set:

TU-P60 *** NO DESCRIPTION AVAILABLE ***

If you have any of the above drawings, or know where they can be found, please contact me.

* Drawing is referenced in the indices, but does not currently exist in this set of drawings. Bummer.
Drawing is believed to have been deleted from the set, but the indices do not explicitly show them as deleted.

The Lost Drawings (52)

There are a group of drawings in the indices which were seemingly deleted before drafting, or early in the planning stages. Vestiges of these drawings can be found in the index where they provide only a curious footnote with a tantalizing bit of detail regarding their purpose. Some of these are labeled as DELETED, but many are not, leaving their dispositon unknown at this time. These "orphans" all appear on drawing G-4 and I have included the following references to underscore the fluid design/construction phase of the Beale Titan I sites:

STORAGE BASE SEGREGATED MAGAZINE (1)

COMMUNICATIONS ANTENNA (COMPLEX ONLY) (4)

These appear likely to be for the HF Hardened Antenna Facility, which looked like this: (see image). Blueprint image courtesy of SiloMan and Dave.

GATE HOUSE / VEHICLE STORAGE BUILDING (4)

This last group is the final segment of the Lost Drawings and is comprised of some remaining disparate subjects, leaning toward the civil aspects such as access roads, boring logs and a few other things. None of these drawings are available at this time, and their whereabouts are presently unknown.

These drawings also tend to depart from the standard naming conventions used by the bulk of the set, sometimes just numbering "1, 2, 3..." instead of something more specfic, or just drop the alphabetic monikers (as in the case of the Missile Silo Composite Drawings) and use a number instead. These prints have a description available and appear to be part of the final construction, but NONE of the following blueprints are present in the Beale set of blueprints at this time:

MISSILE SILO COMPOSITE DRAWINGS (11)

ACCESS ROAD LINCOLN AREA (7)

ACCESS ROAD BUTTES AREA (12)

ACCESS ROAD CHICO AREA (13)

These drawings surely exist somewhere, or at least used to, but for now I am hopefull that they will turn up one day.
