A crane was used to pull the doors closed to address safety concerns over the open silos. Photo captions reads: 'Half the job's done as one door slams to earth. G.W. Justeson, regional director of General Services Administration property management and disposal service, said "We lost a lot of sleep fearing that a human or an animal might fall down one of those shafts." Thought to be Lowry 725-B. Denver Post photo showing one of the three silo with doors standing open. In November of the same year, all three silo doors would be closed using cranes for safety reasons. Photo captions reads: "120-TON, 5-FOOT THICK CONCRETE AND STEEL DOORS, IN PHOTO BELOW, POSE PROBLEM FOR COLORADO LAND BOARD COMMISSIONSERS Unlike doors in site at top photo, silo doors must be closed by the same method not that salvage crews have removed hydraulic mechanisms from them." NOTE: door hydraulic ram is still in place at this site/silo which is a rare sight; also, silo doors are closer to 2 feet thick, not 5 as stated in the caption.
