PP's 2nd incarnation of sonic abomination probes into the dark depths of drone with tracks that both aurally sodomize and soothe (though not simultaneously I should think) the listener to leave he or she feeling violated one moment, and in the staring, zoning grip of a barbiturate suppository the next. Had enough ano-rectal/rape metaphors? Very well then, I shall desist for now. Some of these tracks seemed overly simple to me at first. There was the temptation to flesh them out-- add a beat or more background at times, but I dispensed with the idea after I found the changes displeasing and worse still, detracting, at least to my tastes. The simplicity of some tracks was a virtue I felt, but what the hell do I know? Perhaps some of the tracks will leave a bad taste in your mouth, but then again, you may find an empathy there with me in the Darkness or maybe you've felt yourself gasping for breath, fighting the terrible undercurrents of your own Slow Drowning? Other tracks are so harsh-- like fingernails on slate, or a power drill to the cranium; I wouldn't blame anyone for switching them right off, and yet they hold me frozen fast with their awful power as though I'm watching a train wreck about to occur from aboard the train. There are actually a couple tracks which I find to be rather upbeat, perhaps even manic. Note their scarcity however, and further that they come down off their high eventually. Dronoscopy is the equivalent of a triple or even quadruple album. I hate when the music dies and in my own self-indulgence, I let myself go for well over 20 minutes on at least 5 of the tracks. I ended them when I was ready, not before. This is largely a symptom of the very spontaneous nature of most of the tracks and though that may bug the hell out of some folks, there it is. As a result of the lengths of some tracks there are some correspondingly HUGE files. I apologize to those who endure such a lengthy download without the benefit of knowing what they'll get. I advise you to bend over and try to enjoy it!
