About These Files ================= These files have been prepared to provide the best practical quality with respect to reasonable file size. The quality of some pages is notably lacking, and this stems from the source document(s) and how it was reproduced. This document is a scan of a photo copy produced over 2 decades ago. The most unfortunate result of this fact is that in a number of illustrations the finer details have been lost or are nearly illegible. Given the chance, I would start over and re-scan from the original, but that is not currently possible. While OCR (Optical Character Recognition) has been added to this document to facilitate searchable text, the success of the character recognition has not been 100% as artifacts on the pages, illegible text in some cases, and muddy backgrounds have twarted the ability of modern software to produce flawless results. As a result, some text may not be searchable across the document. However, the majority of the text is indeed searchable and use of "Find/Next" should provide mostly good results. Another aspect of the OCR issues is that some files may display a warning stating: "Cannot extract the embedded font 'Fd185373-Identity-H'. Some characters may not display or print correctly." This is again a symptom of some characters that could not be recognized by the software when the text was encoded. While it may be possible for me to correct some of the problems manually, the labor involved in doing this over many documents is absolutely prohibitive within the confines of my mortal existence. Sorry. There is the hope that AI may be able to clean up some of these pages in the future exists, however, it will have to be within my ability to afford such services so perhaps we'll see one day. Maybe... Water marks!!?? What gives??!! =============================== As the materials on this site are provided for free without consideration of any kind, it has occasioned the enterprising misuse of some materials for monetary gain. This cuts right across the grain of the site's intent and ideology, and frankly pisses me off. An example can be found for sale on-line where a printed version of the dash-1, a sort of encylopedia of the Titan I system, is for sale in bound format. The contents are taken directly from my site (or from documents provided to the AAFM where they may in fact have been sold** and are the version I've been giving away for decades. While the sellers provide the text in a physical bound volume, which is something I *do not* provide, it rests in a gray area for me. I would argue that since it can be printed for free it is disappointing that it exists. No credit or citations appear to be present in the volume, and certainly, no one ever asked for permission to do so. I don't *want* to be paid for the document, and that said, while I have not explicity stated that the media on my site was prohibited from commercial use, a casual reader will likely see that I *do not* support such uses without good cause. And so I have added water marks to selected items that come directly from my archive or were requested to be marked by another contributor. I apologize for any inconvenience. Unmarked materials can be provided by request with the understanding that they not be directly sold as a commodity for profit. I will consider requests individually on their relative merits when deciding to provide unmarked materials. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** [This time *with* my blessing as I happily support the AAFM and it's efforts to generate funding for its continued operation and mission.]
